Lake Parish Councillors have backed a bay-wide tree planting and hedge-laying project aimed at boosting the area’s natural environment.

The initiative, funded by the Tree Council, has seen local councillors Paul Brading and Tony Hartley helping with planting at Lake Cliff Gardens.

Working alongside the Isle of Wight Council, Lake Tree Warden Tony Hartley secured a range of new trees, including Sweet Gum, Elm ‘Lutece’, Callery Pear (Redspire), Scots Pine and Pin Oak.

Additional trees have also been provided for nearby Los Altos and the local cemetery.

Tony Hartley said the scheme highlights the importance of investing in the natural environment, adding:

“Thanks to all the volunteers involved, we hope these trees will enhance the experience of residents and visitors this summer, and for many years to come.”

Paul Brading said the planting forms part of wider improvements in the area, including ongoing investment in grounds maintenance at Lake Cliff Gardens, the new toilet block, and an application for funding for a free water point as part of the Bay Place Plan.
