A new personalised water-based exercise programme is being introduced at two Isle of Wight leisure centres to help residents with joint pain, mobility issues and rehabilitation needs.

Good Boost will launch at 1Leisure Medina and 1Leisure Heights on September 1.

The programme uses waterproof tablets in the pool to deliver personalised exercise and rehabilitation sessions based on each participant's health, symptoms and ability.

After completing a simple questionnaire, the technology creates a bespoke programme which adapts as participants make progress and their needs change.

The sessions take place in waist to chest-height water, meaning the programme is suitable for non-swimmers and people who may feel nervous about exercising or returning to physical activity.

Good Boost will be available to 1Leisure Gold One Card members and exercise on referral clients.

Residents can self-refer or be referred by their GP or another healthcare professional.

Key benefits include helping to manage pain through exercise, while improving mobility, strength and range of movement.

The programme is also designed to build confidence and self-esteem, while reducing social isolation through regular participation.

Councillor Julie Jones-Evans said the programme would give residents “another way to improve their health and wellbeing”.

She added that it would help people living with joint pain, mobility challenges or recovering from injury to exercise “safely and confidently in a welcoming environment”.

No previous exercise experience is required, with each programme tailored to the participant's individual needs.

For more information, residents can speak to teams at 1Leisure Medina or 1Leisure Heights.
