New Public Water Fountain Installed At Lake Cliff Gardens

A new public water refill station has been installed at Lake Cliff Gardens.

The fountain, near the public toilets by Skew Bridge, has been opened by Lake Parish Council chairman Paul Brading.

It provides free drinking water for residents and visitors, with the council hoping it will encourage people to use refillable bottles rather than buying single-use plastic ones.

The installation is part of the parish council's efforts to support sustainability and reduce plastic waste along the Island's coastline.

The location was chosen because of its proximity to the seafront and regular use by walkers, cyclists, families and beachgoers.

The project has been supported through the Sea-Changers Coastal Fountain Fund, which helps not-for-profit organisations provide public water refill points in coastal areas.

The fund is supported by Bunzl plc and aims to reduce marine litter and the amount of plastic waste entering the UK's coastal and marine environments.

The council says the fountain will be maintained so it remains available for public use throughout the year.

Paul Brading said the new facility provides a "practical and sustainable" way for people to stay hydrated while enjoying the coastal area, and could help reduce single-use plastic waste.
