A new app aimed at tackling dog fouling across the Isle of Wight has been launched, giving residents a simple way to report incidents in their local area.
Isle Of Poop allows users to take a photo of dog mess using their mobile phone, automatically capturing the GPS location and logging it on an interactive map.
Reports are then visible to other residents and visitors, helping to highlight problem areas across the Island and encourage cleaner public spaces.
The platform, available via Isle Of Poop website, also introduces a gamified element, with users earning points for each report they submit.
Participants can climb a leaderboard, progressing through ranks from ‘Poop Rookie’ to the tongue-in-cheek title of ‘Grand Poop Master’.
In addition to reporting, users can also confirm when an area has been cleaned.
Reports automatically expire after one month, but those who verify clean-ups early can earn bonus points.
A standout feature of the app is the “Official Poop Scale™”, which allows users to categorise their findings based on size and severity.
The scale ranges from Level 1 “Skid”, described as a simple smear, through to Level 6 “Motherlode”, reserved for what is described as an “impressive specimen”.
Mid-range categories include “Nugget” for smaller deposits and “Payload” for larger-than-average incidents, giving users a light-hearted way to standardise reports.
The initiative aims to combine community reporting with a sense of humour, while ultimately addressing a long-standing issue on the Isle of Wight’s streets and public spaces.
