A new gate has been officially unveiled at Copse Mead Nature Reserve in Lake, marking the return of more than 90 “easy keep” sheep to the site.
Lake Parish Council Chair, Cllr Paul Brading, carried out the unveiling and welcomed the flock back to the mead, where they will graze alongside local residents who use the green space before the land is flailed later in the year.
Cllr Brading thanked Danny Horne from Natural Enterprise for helping make the project possible, as well as shepherd Ross Simpson for the loan of the sheep.
He said:
“Thanks to all involved in the projects, balancing continued public access and the natural environment, with a badger and foxes also resident in the mead — with butterflies to revisit in the spring.”
Danny Horne added that the improvements offer both environmental and community benefits:
“It’s really good use of a small site and provides better protection for the sheep, with local residents appreciating the seasonal visitors.”
