A new programme aimed at giving experienced fire cadets further insight into the fire service has been launched by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
The Fire Cadet Ambassador scheme is designed for cadets who have reached Watch Manager level, allowing them to continue their development and work towards a recognised ambassador award.
The first group of ambassadors was welcomed at a ceremony held at the service’s headquarters in Eastleigh on March 23, where they were presented with new epaulettes in front of family members.
The programme will be delivered through a mix of online sessions and in-person training at local fire stations, with participants able to take part for up to two years or until they turn 20.
Organisers say the scheme will build on the success of the existing cadet programme, helping young people develop confidence, leadership, teamwork and mentoring skills.
Fire Cadet Delivery Manager Clair Hayward said the initiative will support cadets in taking the next step, preparing them for future opportunities while continuing to build on the skills they have already gained.
The Fire Cadets programme is open to young people aged 13 to 17 and focuses on developing life skills, wellbeing and confidence.
