South Wight Area Youth (SWAY) has welcomed a new Café and Shop Supervisor to help run its growing community hub in Chale Green.
Dawnie Pearce has joined the team at the Hub in Spanners Close, where she will oversee the café and shop, which were created to provide services lost following the closure of Chale Green Stores several years ago.
The café serves hot and cold drinks, cakes, snacks and light refreshments during the day, as well as when the hall and meeting rooms are in use. SWAY also hopes to introduce hospitality training at the venue in the future.
Meanwhile, the shop stocks a range of everyday essentials, giving residents and visitors access to basic provisions without needing to travel into town. It is open six days a week, with Dawnie leading a team of volunteers.
A long-time local resident, Dawnie said she was delighted to be working close to home for an organisation she already knew well through her family's involvement with SWAY.
She said the new facilities would make a real difference by providing a convenient place for local people to shop, meet and enjoy a coffee.
Residents and visitors are being encouraged to drop into the café for refreshments or pick up everyday essentials and ice creams during the summer months.
