Superintendent Marcus Cator has officially taken over as Area Commander for the Isle of Wight following the retirement of Superintendent Rob Mitchell after 30 years of service.
He stepped into the role in April 2026 and made his first public appearance at the Area Commander’s Awards in Newport, where officers, staff and members of the public were recognised for their work.
Originally from the Isle of Wight, Superintendent Cator has served with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary for 26 years, working across the county with a focus on victim-led policing.
He said his local knowledge gives him a strong understanding of the Island’s policing challenges, adding that he has been impressed by partnership work across services to protect vulnerable people and support communities.
He also highlighted recent joint action that led to a partial closure order being granted at addresses in Newport following evidence of drug-related anti-social behaviour, working alongside housing providers Southern Housing and Vectis Housing.
Superintendent Cator said he is looking forward to spending time across Island districts and encouraged residents to approach him if they see him out and about.
