Members of Nettlestone and Seaview Shed have raised funds for the Daisy Ring bus through the sale of their hand-crafted wooden gifts.
The group, known locally as the “Nashers”, has spent several years designing and producing original wooden products, selling them at community events.
Donations received from those sales have now been used to make a generous contribution to the Daisy Ring bus.
The Daisy Ring bus is a voluntary service which helps Isle of Wight cancer patients travel safely and free of charge between mainland ferry and hovercraft terminals and hospitals in Southampton and Portsmouth.
Michèle Le Quesne Newton, representing the Daisy Ring bus, thanked members of the shed for their support.
She said the service would not be able to operate without donations of this kind.
She added that the charity is now transporting just under 2,000 patients a month across its Portsmouth and Southampton routes, providing the journeys with dignity, care and compassion.
Michèle also paid tribute to the team of dedicated Island volunteer drivers who give their time to transport patients.
Nettlestone and Seaview Shed Chair, Rob Webb, said members had read about the challenges facing the previous Daisy bus services and recognised how serious the loss of such a vital link would be for Island residents.
He said the group contacted Michèle while she was setting up the new Daisy Ring bus to offer financial support.
