An innovative beach access project in Ryde has received national recognition after being named a finalist at the Blue Badge Access Awards.

The initiative, based at Ryde Beach, was shortlisted in the ‘Motability Best Day Out’ category, alongside major UK venues and events including Alexandra Palace, Glastonbury Festival and Birmingham’s Bullring. It was also Highly Commended, highlighting its impact in a competitive field.

The scheme provides specialist equipment and trained support to help people of all ages and abilities access the seafront, aiming to remove barriers and create a more inclusive experience.

Diana Conyers said: “This is an incredible achievement for a small town like Ryde. I would like to thank the team for all the effort they have put into this project.”

Annette Steed, Projects Officer at Ryde Town Council, added: “We are absolutely delighted to have been acknowledged in such a way… it reflects the hard work, passion and commitment that has gone into making our beaches more accessible for all.”

Organisers say the recognition strengthens the Island’s reputation for inclusive tourism, with plans to expand the service further.
