Drivers and residents across the Isle of Wight are being advised of a series of temporary road closures, footpath restrictions and parking changes starting from mid-April.

Island Roads, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, has issued a wide-ranging notice covering dozens of locations, with works including utility upgrades, carriageway repairs, resurfacing, and drainage improvements.

Among the earliest closures, Sandown Road in Arreton, Holyrood Street in Newport and Lake Green Road in Lake will be affected between 13 and 17 April.

Several roads in Godshill, including Sheepwash Lane and Roud Road, will also see short-term closures for ditching works.

From 20 April, a larger programme of works begins. Eddington Road in St Helens, Lowtherville Road in Ventnor and Star Street in Ryde are all set to close for several days, alongside a number of footpaths including Ryde Footpath 82 and Freshwater Footpath 7.

Closures will also impact key routes such as Fairlee Road in Newport, Main Road in Rookley and Southford Lane in Whitwell, while temporary parking restrictions will be introduced in areas including Horsebridge Hill in Newport.

In addition, a rolling programme of maintenance works will take place between 17 April and 29 May, affecting multiple roads across the Island including parts of Freshwater, Bembridge, Ryde, Ventnor and Lake.

These works may involve daytime or overnight closures lasting between one and 15 days.

Further longer-term works, lasting up to 12 weeks, are also planned in areas such as East Cowes and Brading.

Motorists are advised that all closures will be clearly signposted, with alternative routes provided where possible.

However, in some cases – such as Clay Lane in Newbridge – no diversion will be available.

Island Roads says exact timings and access arrangements will be communicated directly to affected residents and businesses ahead of the works, with advance warning signs placed on site.

Drivers are also warned that schedules may change due to adverse weather conditions.

The restrictions are being introduced under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to ensure the safety of both workers and the public during the improvement programme.
