The Mountbatten hospice group, which comprises Mountbatten Isle of Wight and

Mountbatten Hampshire, has joined forces with Southampton Solent University to

launch a brand new course in palliative and end-of-life care.

The Level 7 module, worth 30 credits, is designed for healthcare professionals and will begin in September 2025.

It aims to give participants the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver compassionate, holistic care for people at the end of their lives, as well as support for their families.

The course will be taught by Mountbatten’s team of experts, recognised nationally for their work in end-of-life care.

Sessions will focus on best practice, shared experiences and interactive, scenario-based learning.

Dr Elaine Cockerham, Head of Education at Mountbatten, said:

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Southampton Solent University.
"The importance of delivering best practice in palliative and end-of-life care cannot be overstated, and this is a wonderful opportunity for healthcare professionals to expand their scope of practice and learn from our expert staff.”

Jan Parker, Head of Social Sciences and Nursing at Solent University, added:

“We’re honoured to be working alongside Mountbatten Hospice on this initiative.
"Their expertise and ethos deeply align with our commitment to preparing thoughtful, resilient healthcare professionals ready to meet the needs of their communities.”
