Proposed double yellow lines on parts of Leeson Road, Ventnor have drawn mixed reactions from residents, according to county councillor Mark Jefferies.
The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) would introduce a ‘No Waiting/No Loading at Any Time’ restriction on the west side of the road from the northern access to Smugglers Haven car park south for 325 metres, and on the east side for 287 metres.
County Hall says the measure would prevent parking and improve safety.
Cllr Jefferies said he understands both sides of the debate. Supporters argue that clearing the road would help buses and heavy vehicles pass, particularly during busy school runs, while opponents say it would force residents to park elsewhere, potentially creating congestion further along the road.
The TRO has also raised questions over its impact on traffic speed, with opinions split.
Some residents believe it won’t make much difference because cars continue to park further down the road.
Cllr Jefferies has been leafleting local homes, speaking with the council’s economy, regeneration, transport and infrastructure chair Julie Jones‑Evans, and plans to raise his concerns formally at the panel.
The council’s notice for the TRO states the changes aim to “facilitate the passage on the road… of any class of traffic (including pedestrians) and for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road.”
