A motorcyclist has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with a serious leg injury following a crash on Forest Road, which has caused traffic delays on the main diversion route to Cowes.

Police confirmed the update shortly after 5.15pm today (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike near Forest View Nursery at around 4.40pm.

Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary attended alongside paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

The incident initially led to Forest Road being closed between Gunville and Parkhurst Road, although police later began directing vehicles through the scene while the response continued.

With Horsebridge Hill currently operating as a one-way system, traffic heading towards Cowes has been diverted through Newport and along Gunville Road to rejoin Forest Road.

Drivers have reported heavy congestion in the area.

Police enquiries are ongoing.

Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys and avoid the area where possible.
