More than 50 events have now been confirmed for this summer's inaugural Wight Games Festival, with organisers promising there's something for everyone.

The festival, taking place mainly during July and August, will support three Island charities – Mountbatten Isle of Wight, Independent Arts and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Charity.

Created by Cowes resident and G4 singer Mike Christie, the festival aims to encourage people to try new sports and activities while raising money for local good causes.

The programme includes everything from croquet in Ryde and welly-wanging at the Royal Isle of Wight County Show to Quizzy Bingo at Mountbatten, Roman board games at Brading Roman Villa and Rummikub at the Isle of Wight Alzheimer Café in Cowes. More traditional sports, including tennis, pickleball and sailing, also feature.

Mike Christie said the wide range of activities means there is something for everyone.

"Our slogan is 'Ready, Steady, Wight!' and we hope people will support the charities while stepping outside their comfort zone to try something new," he said.

The festival is free to enter, with donations encouraged throughout. All money raised will be shared equally between Mountbatten Isle of Wight, Independent Arts and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Charity.

Organisers hope the event will become an annual fixture, celebrating the Island's community spirit, creativity and diversity.
