More than 1,000 children across the Isle of Wight have been offered secondary school places this week as part of National Offer Day.

Figures released by the Isle of Wight Council show that 94.2 per cent of parents received an offer for one of their preferred schools for the 2026/27 academic year.

That compares with 96 per cent last year.

The council received 1,220 on-time applications. Of those, 1,018 pupils – 83.4 per cent – were offered their first-choice school.

A further 115 children received their second choice and 17 their third choice. All on-time applicants were offered a place.

Late applications are not included in the figures.

Councillor Paul Brading, chair of the children’s services, education and skills committee, said it was positive to see so many families securing one of their preferred options and added that the council continues to work closely with schools to support pupils through the transition to secondary education.

Parents who have applied for primary school places will receive their offers on 16 April.
