Major maintenance work to Medina Bridge (the dual carriageway) has been
rescheduled.
The work by Island Roads to replace 16 bearings on what is the Island’s longest and
most well-used structure was initially scheduled to begin in September but has now
been pushed back to September 2026.
This decision allows Island Roads to provide solutions to a series of complex
technical challenges encountered during the design phase.
Work on the six-month project cannot begin after September because of the need to avoid the summer season and events such as the IW Festival.
The bearing replacement project is a proactive measure designed to enhance the
bridges longevity so the rescheduling does not compromise the structural integrity of
the bridge which remains safe for use.
Island Roads will continue to provide updates as the schedule is finalised.
