A PE teacher at Medina College is set to take on an extraordinary overnight endurance challenge to raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Association.
Head of PE, Ian Rock, will begin “Mr Rock’s 100” at 4am on Thursday 30 April, attempting to complete 100 laps of a one-mile course around the school fields without sleep, finishing the following day.
Ian’s motivation is deeply personal. He lost his father to Huntington’s Disease, and both he and his brother have tested positive for the condition and are now symptomatic.
Despite this, he continues to raise awareness and funds to support families affected by the disease.
Students from Medina College, along with pupils from other primary and secondary schools across the Isle of Wight, will join Ian for parts of the challenge.
On Friday, the school will also hold a non-uniform day in the charity’s colours of pink and green, with donations going towards the fundraising total.
The school community will then gather to welcome Ian across the finish line.
This will be Ian’s third major challenge for the charity, having previously completed a non-stop 73-mile walk around the Island and an ascent challenge reaching 9,000 metres of elevation.
Anyone wishing to support Ian’s efforts can donate via his JustGiving page.
