Island Roads is set to carry out two significant road improvement schemes in September, which will mean full road closures in parts of Apse Heath and Arreton.
The first project begins on Monday 8 September, with a two-week upgrade to sections of Ventnor Road in Apse Heath.
Once that’s complete, work will move to Main Road in Arreton, where improvements are expected to take around three days.
Both roads will be fully closed to through traffic while the works take place, as engineers need to dig deeper than usual to rebuild the road foundations.
Diversion routes will be signposted, and information boards will go up at both locations ahead of the closures.
Island Roads has contacted residents on Ventnor Road to discuss access needs during the scheme.
A spokesperson said:
“It is clear these sections of road require improvement and unfortunately it is not possible to undertake such work without some degree of disruption.
"However, by strengthening the highway foundations now, we hope to reduce the need for future maintenance at these locations.”
The closures will be in place:
Ventnor Road – between Apse Heath Roundabout and The Brambles
Main Road, Arreton – between Downend Road and Wight Farm Energy
The Arreton project will not start until work in Apse Heath has been completed. Island Roads has warned that dates may change depending on weather or unexpected conditions on site.
