Main Road Closed In Ryde As Firefighters Rescue Injured Woman

A main road in Ryde has been closed this afternoon (Wednesday) as emergency services work to rescue an injured woman from a block of flats.

Fire crews from Ryde and Sandown, along with a duty officer, were called just before 2pm to assist the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at an address on East Hill Road.

Police have shut the road in both directions between West Hill Road and Ampthill while the incident is dealt with.

Firefighters are using an aerial ladder platform from Newport to safely bring the woman down from the building. She is believed to have suffered a neck injury.

Scaffolding already in place at the property is helping crews with the operation.

The woman is expected to be lowered on a stretcher before being taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area while the road remains closed.
