Reform UK has emerged as the largest group on Isle of Wight Council after all 39 local election results were declared - but fell just short of an overall majority.

Counting took place at Medina Leisure Centre today, with strong postal voting reported, as more than 80% of postal ballots were returned.
Reform UK won 19 seats, one short of the 20 needed for overall control. Independents and the Island Independent Network secured 11 seats between them, while the Liberal Democrats took four, the Greens two, the Conservatives two and Labour one.

One of the day’s biggest results saw council leader Phil Jordan lose his Ryde North West seat to Reform UK’s Reuben Burns Loake.
The final result of the day was also one of the closest, with Reform UK’s Stephen Reynolds winning Shanklin Central by a single vote.
Other notable outcomes included Labour taking Cowes North, the Greens retaining Chale, Niton and Shorwell, and the Conservatives holding Ventnor and St Lawrence.

It is time to work together with those you have spent years fighting, to create a better Island Plan - for the future, those with venues should welcome previous political opponents - to create answers for the island and you all need to be more inclusive- proper inclusive meetings for all - a starting point maybe redevelopment in more appropriate places like Sandown Town and not the greenfields of Newchurch - EON have an application in Lake - for EV charging - time to work at a fantastic future and leave the rubbish out in the cold
