As the Isle of Wight marks Beer Day Britain today (15 June), a locally brewed ale is helping to raise vital funds for one of the Island's most cherished charities.
Yates’ Brewery produces Old Man Yatesy, a dark ale named in honour of the brewery’s founder, David Yates Senior, who died in the care of Mountbatten Isle of Wight in October 2025.
David's son, also named David Yates, said the family wanted to give something back after the care his father received.
"The treatment my dad got from Mountbatten Isle of Wight was unreal, unbelievable.
"We wanted to give something back," he said.
For every bottle of Old Man Yatesy sold, Yates’ Brewery donates 5p to support Mountbatten Isle of Wight's round-the-clock care services.
Around 85 per cent of Mountbatten’s care is delivered in people's homes across the Island.
The charity also provides end-of-life support for Islanders and their families through its Inpatient Unit and day services at the John Cheverton Centre community space in Newport.
The beer itself is carefully crafted in small batches by head brewer Josh Davies.
The dark ale features aromas of raisins, plum and roasted malt, while oats and wheat combine to create a warming drink that typically reaches 7.2% ABV.
Brewed at the company's base in Newchurch, Old Man Yatesy continues the legacy of David Yates Senior by using his original recipes.
Beer lovers can enjoy a bottle of Old Man Yatesy while helping to support the work of Mountbatten Isle of Wight and ensuring David Yates Senior's legacy lives on.
