An employment and training event is being held in Sandown this week to help Islanders explore new job opportunities and career paths.

Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson is hosting the East Wight Jobs, Training and Careers Fair at the Broadway Centre on Friday (April 17), with doors open from 3pm to 5.30pm.

The event is open to people of all ages — from young people planning their future to adults looking for a career change, further training or a return to work.

A range of employers and organisations will be in attendance, including Southern Water, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, Visit Isle of Wight and HTP Apprenticeship College.

They’ll be offering advice on jobs, apprenticeships, skills and training opportunities.

Mr Robertson says creating more opportunities for Islanders is a key priority, with the event aimed at supporting people at every stage of their working life — whether they’re starting out, retraining or looking for a new direction.

A jobs and careers fair can be a great chance to meet employers in a more relaxed way than sending applications online. I’d bring a few printed CVs, dress neatly, and prepare a short introduction about skills, experience, and what kind of work feels like a good fit. It’s also smart to ask about training, schedules, and workplace culture, not just pay. Career events can teach you what local employers really need. I also think workers should know practical basics, like how to write a letter of complaint to hr , because confidence at work includes knowing how to communicate professionally when something needs fixing.
