A new original queer, steampunk stage musical being developed on the Isle of Wight has received a £300 grant from the Arts Society Isle of Wight.
A Clockwork Heart – written and composed by Island artist Paul A.T. Wilson – tells the story
of Florence, a reclusive inventor, and Rose, the clockwork woman she brings to life.
Set in a richly imagined steampunk world, the show explores themes of love, transition, identity and acceptance, with humour, heartbreak and hope woven through its story.
All members of the cast and creative team are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, ensuring authentic voices are at the heart of the production.
The piece is being developed for a workshop and performance at Bembridge Fort during Pride Month 2026, before a full staging at the Ventnor Fringe Festival later that year.
Paul A.T. Wilson, the show’s writer, composer and director, said:“This story has been growing for many years and draws on deeply personal themes of love, identity and belonging.
The support from the Arts Society Isle of Wight is a wonderful encouragement and will help us bring this world to life.”
Polly Wray, 14, who is part of the supporting cast, said:
“I am so excited to be part of this new show – it’s collaborative and so supportive; it’s a fantastically creative experience.
"This funding will really help us bring the show to life.”
Tide Nor Time Players CIC, the community interest company behind the project, focuses on inclusion and diversity in the arts, amplifying stories and voices that are often underrepresented.
The group thanked Arts Society Isle of Wight chair Glenys Williams and her team for their support in championing new creative work on the Island.
