An Isle of Wight environmental campaigner has been recognised on a prestigious national list celebrating the UK’s most influential green professionals.

Lorna Selby, Policy and Advocacy Officer at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, has been named a Rising Star in the ENDS Report Power List 2026 — which highlights emerging leaders driving environmental change across the country.

The 23-year-old, who lives on the Isle of Wight, was selected from dozens of nominees nationwide for the impact she’s already making early in her career.

The annual list, published by the ENDS Report, recognises individuals shaping environmental policy, sustainability and conservation.

Lorna’s work has focused heavily on protecting rare and fragile chalk streams and rivers — including those across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight — which are among the most threatened habitats in the UK.

She has been involved in efforts to strengthen local policy protections for these waterways and raise awareness of the pressures they face from pollution and development.

Speaking after the announcement, Lorna said it was an honour to be recognised and highlighted the importance of collective action in tackling environmental challenges.

She said protecting chalk streams is a key priority, warning that water security will be one of the defining issues of this generation.

Her work has been praised by colleagues at the Wildlife Trust, who say she represents a new generation of environmental leaders bringing urgency and clarity to complex issues.

Hannah Terrey said Lorna’s recognition was “well deserved”, praising her passion and determination in speaking up for the Island’s natural environment.

The Trust says Lorna’s achievement reflects a strong track record of developing influential voices within the organisation, alongside wider national recognition for its environmental leadership.
