A new children’s workbook designed to tackle fear of failure and build self-esteem has been launched by Lemon Jelly Press, a small independent publisher based on the Isle of Wight.

Aimed at children aged 7–13, Facing the Fear of Failure offers playful, practical tools to help

young people rediscover the joy of writing and learning without fear of “getting it wrong.”

Created by local publisher Lottie Begg, the workbook is already attracting attention from both national and local children’s charities.

Helen Bishop, who works for the Roald Dahl Children’s Charity, said:

“They could be really valuable for our groups.”

She has booked Lemon Jelly Press to deliver two creative writing workshops for the charity

this August.

The Isle of Wight Youth Trust has also praised the workbook’s approachable style and

potential as a wellbeing tool.

Kathy Whitewood, Head of Counselling and Wellbeing, commented:

“I really like the style and content – If you’re happy, we’d love to add a few sheets to our website as downloadable self-help resources.
“For a wellbeing activity I think these would be perfect.”

The project is currently live on Kickstarter, with funds raised going toward printing and

distributing free copies to schools, libraries, and children’s mental health services across the Island.

Lottie Begg, founder of Lemon Jelly Press and a former children’s librarian, said:

“I created this workbook because I’ve met so many children who are bright, creative, and curious—but are paralysed by the fear of failure.
"That fear stops them from enjoying reading, writing, or even raising their hand in class.
"I wanted to make something fun, affirming, and visually inviting to help shift that mindset.
"The response so far has been incredibly moving.”

The workbook is the first in a planned series of creative, inclusive publications for children, all rooted in Lemon Jelly Press’s mission to empower young minds through storytelling,

creativity, and community connection.
