New figures released today show that waiting lists at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust have fallen, following a national trend.

Across England, waiting lists dropped by 43,000 in January and are down 374,000 over the past 18 months.

On the Isle of Wight, the number of patients waiting for treatment fell by 273 in January, a nearly 2% decrease during one of the busiest months of the year.

Labour’s Steve Double welcomed the figures, saying:

“This is real progress – real change that makes a real difference to Islanders’ lives.
"No one is satisfied with where we are, but we are moving in the right direction and that means fewer local people waiting with the pain and anxiety that can come with waiting for care.
“These improvements are thanks to our fantastic local NHS staff, and the record investment and reform put in place by this Labour Government.

"With the new solar panels at St Mary’s freeing up thousands of pounds to be redirected towards frontline services, Islanders can expect to see continued improvements.
“Today’s figures underline a simple fact – the NHS is only safe with Labour.
"The Tories wrecked it and Nigel Farage talks about replacing it – but Labour is making steady progress on getting our health service back on its feet.”

The statistics cover referral-to-treatment times across hospitals in England, including St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight.
