The NHS is inviting residents of the Isle of Wight to have their say on proposals to create local health neighbourhoods, designed to bring care closer to home.

While NHS Hampshire has outlined 24 neighbourhood areas across the mainland, the Isle of Wight will have its own separate neighbourhood areas tailored to the needs of Island communities.

The proposals aim to make health and care services more responsive to local populations, taking into account factors such as age, health needs, long-term conditions, and how services can work together to improve outcomes.

The approach will also encourage closer collaboration with local councils, the police, and voluntary organisations on the Island.

James Roach, Director of Primary Care and Local Care for NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, said:

“The aim of neighbourhood health is exactly that – providing health and care services within local communities and delivering more care closer to home.
"For the Isle of Wight, we want to ensure that local services reflect the needs of our Island communities, so we’re asking residents to share their views on how these neighbourhood areas should be shaped.”

Neighbourhood health is part of the government’s National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme (NNHIP), which looks to shift more care from hospitals into community settings.

Residents on the Isle of Wight are encouraged to take part in the survey and have their say on the future of local health services.
