Priory School welcomed Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson to the faculty on Friday 30 January.
Mr Robertson, who has represented the constituency since July 2024, spoke to pupils in Years 9 to 11 about his career in politics and his work in Parliament, where he sits on committees including health and social care and public transport.
He discussed a range of Island issues, including education, housing, the economy and transport, and also shared his views on MPs defecting to other political parties, saying he believes such moves should trigger a by-election.
Students questioned the MP on topics including a potential fixed link to the mainland, the need for more affordable housing, exam results in Island schools, transport infrastructure and the decision to split the Isle of Wight into two parliamentary constituencies.
The school said pupils were impressed by Mr Robertson’s responses and engagement.
The faculty has confirmed plans to invite Isle of Wight West MP Richard Quigley for a similar visit to hear the Labour Government’s views on the same issues.
