Utilita’s Newport Energy Hub is teaming up with the local community to support the Sharewear Clothing Scheme during Clothing Poverty Awareness Week, from Monday 2nd to Saturday 7th June.

The campaign, launched in 2020 as an extension of Sharewear’s 2018 Clothing Poverty Awareness Day, aims to tackle clothing poverty in the UK and reduce textile waste.

Hub Supervisor Simon Jackson and the Utilita team invite islanders to donate clothes or take part in a clothes swap at the hub.

Simon highlights the ongoing affordability crisis making clothing harder to afford, especially for low-income families:

“Every donation helps us raise vital funds for Sharewear,” he says. “If you have pre-loved clothes, bring them along or make a donation to support this cause.”

Since opening in March 2020, the Energy Hub has offered advice on energy savings, smart meters, and fuel efficiency, alongside supporting the community with clothing and energy needs.

The hub is open Monday to Saturday at 121 High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 1TP. For info or to book the free community space, email IsleofWight@utilita.co.uk or visit utilita.co.uk/energy-hub.
