The much-loved clock on the Masonic Hall in Seaview has been fully restored and is once again keeping time for the village.
The clock has stood in the same position since the building was first opened in 1912, becoming a familiar landmark for residents and visitors alike.
Over time, weather damage and ageing parts eventually took their toll, prompting members of the Spithead Masonic Lodge to commission a full restoration.
The work was carried out by Hawkins Clocks, who were able to retain the original metal frame and glass face while manufacturing a new dial, internal workings, a clock resynchroniser, and upgraded LED lighting.
The system has been designed to operate reliably for the next 20 years.
Bob Cooper, speaking for the Spithead Masons, said the clock has long been a key feature of the village.
He said:
“The clock was there when the Lodge purchased the property in 1947 and has been the focal point for people passing through to check the time.
"Many attempts have been made over the years to keep it working, but severe weather and damage eventually brought it to its end.
“It was our duty to the public to raise the funds to restore it to its iconic status, using as many original parts as possible.
"We thank Hawkins Clocks for their vision in bringing it back to life.”
The restored clock was officially back in working order at 8am on 23rd April.
