Hovertravel, the fastest ferry service between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, has introduced a significant upgrade to its freight offering, moving from a size-based pricing model to a more accurate weight-based system.

This development comes in direct response to feedback from customers and reflects Hovertravel’s ongoing commitment to improving its logistics services.

The new weight-based charging structure allows for greater fairness and transparency for freight customers, ensuring they only pay for the actual weight of their goods, rather than their volume.

This change reflects the requirements of individuals and businesses who need to move goods quickly across the Solent but need to optimise their delivery costs.

Julie Horrocks, Head of Business Development at Hovertravel, commented:

"We’ve spent the past few months consulting closely with our freight customers to understand how we can better support their businesses.
"The move to a weight-based pricing system is a direct result of that collaboration.
"Our aim is to offer a more tailored, flexible and competitive freight service that reflects real-world needs.
"We know we are the fastest freight ferry option and we want to ensure that we remain competitive in a crowded market."

Hovertravel’s freight service runs up to 60 crossings per day between Southsea and Ryde, offering same-day, foot-on and foot-off delivery options for time-critical goods.

With no requirement for a driving licence or vehicle insurance, it offers a fast and accessible solution for couriers and delivery teams operating on tight schedules.

Current freight customers include pharmaceutical distributors needing reliable, timely delivery for sensitive medical products, and suppliers of automotive parts such as windscreens, who require efficient transport to maintain their supply chains.

Hovertravel's investment in refining its freight operations is part of a broader strategy to remain the most dependable and innovative cross-Solent transport provider for both people and goods.
