Annual Ploughing Competition Set To Take Place In Godshill
Vintage and modern farming machinery will be put to the test in Godshill when the Island's annual ploughing competition returns on Saturday.
Around 33 tractors are due at Tresslewood, off Newport Road, for the event on 19th September. The Isle of Wight Ploughing Match has been an Island tradition since the 1940s.
Activity in the field will begin at 09:30, with competitors starting their judged plots from 10:00. Ploughing is expected to finish at 13:00 before prizes and a raffle later in the afternoon.
Rather than simply looking for the straightest furrows, judges will examine the consistency and depth of each plot, how effectively vegetation has been turned into the soil and the quality of the finished work.
Crops Competition Awards will also be handed out during the event.
This year's match will support Mountbatten Hospice, which will receive money raised after the costs of staging the event have been covered.
