Hovertravel has once again been recognised for its environmental efforts, becoming the only cross-Solent ferry operator to achieve Green Marine Europe certification for a third consecutive year.
The Ryde to Southsea hovercraft service, which is the only year-round passenger hovercraft operation outside Japan, was awarded the certification in recognition of its continued work to reduce environmental impact across air, land and water.
Green Marine Europe, the European arm of the internationally recognised Green Marine programme, assesses operators against 11 environmental performance indicators.
These include emissions, fuel efficiency and waste management, with companies required to show clear year-on-year improvements.
As part of this year’s assessment, Hovertravel introduced detailed monitoring of nitrous oxide emissions across its fleet, helping to establish a baseline for future reductions.
Brendan Beattie, Master, Marine Safety and Environmental Officer at Hovertravel, said the recognition was a proud achievement for the business.
He said:
“Being the only cross-Solent ferry to achieve this certification is a real credit to our team.
"It reflects our commitment to operating sustainably and motivates us to keep innovating to reduce our environmental footprint.”
The latest certification underlines Hovertravel’s position as a leader in sustainable hovercraft operations, demonstrating that reliable passenger transport and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
