Hovertravel has announced it will work in partnership with the newly formed Daisy Ring Bus Community Interest Company (CIC), which is taking over the running of the Portsmouth Daisy Bus service from Monday (5 January).
The Daisy Bus provides free transport for Isle of Wight cancer patients, taking them from Hovertravel’s Southsea Hoverport directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
The service is transferring from Wessex Cancer Support to the Daisy Ring Bus CIC following an agreement between the two organisations.
As part of the transition, the ownership of the minibus has been transferred to the CIC, helping to secure the long-term future of the service.
Hovertravel says it remains committed to supporting what it describes as a vital lifeline for patients travelling to the mainland for treatment, ensuring continuity and dignity for Islanders attending essential appointments.
The company has been a long-time supporter of Daisy Bus services and will continue to provide the cross-Solent link that enables patients to access hospital care.
Michèle le Quesne Newton, Chair of Daisy Ring Bus CIC, said the group is looking forward to working closely with Hovertravel to continue providing a reliable and compassionate service for Island cancer patients.
