Residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to take part in a new public survey launched by Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones — asking for views on future investment in policing through council tax contributions.
The online survey invites people to share how much they are willing to pay through their council tax to support local policing, which is currently funded by both government grants and local contributions.
At present, 41% of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s budget comes from council tax, with the remaining 59% provided by central government.
PCC Donna Jones said:
“Since taking office in 2021, my top priority has been increasing police officer numbers and bringing policing closer to our communities.
"The force now has the highest number of officers in over a decade, and I’ve reopened eight police stations, with five more planned.
“Residents tell me they want more visible policing, faster response times, and stronger neighbourhood teams.
"Achieving that means continued investment in recruitment, training, technology, and infrastructure.
“To keep improving our police service, I need to hear directly from you.
"Your views will shape where funding goes and ensure policing remains modern, effective, and community-focused.”
The survey outlines potential investment areas, including:
More officers on the streets
Faster investigations and response times using advanced technology
Modern police stations and equipment
Stronger neighbourhood policing through the Local Bobby Scheme
The survey is open until 11.59pm on Tuesday 2 December 2025, and feedback will help shape the policing budget and council tax precept for the next financial year.
