Gurit, the advanced materials manufacturer with a long-standing facility on the Isle of Wight, has secured a major new five-year supply agreement with one of the world’s leading wind turbine makers — a deal expected to bring around £218 million in net sales over the contract period.

The contract cements Gurit’s position as a global leader in engineered core solutions for the wind energy sector and marks its first major agreement featuring its innovative OptiCore technology for wind turbine blades.

It will support both offshore and onshore turbine platforms across multiple regions, providing guaranteed long-term demand for the company’s specialised core material kits.

For the Newport community and the Island’s economy, the news is particularly positive:

Gurit’s UK presence at St Cross Business Park in Newport is a key part of the company’s global footprint and has been manufacturing advanced epoxy-based products and composite materials on the Island for more than 40 years.

The Isle of Wight site occupies a 5,000 m² facility and employs more than 60 people, producing a wide range of high-performance materials used in industries from wind energy to marine and industrial sectors.

Gurit’s Newport operation not only contributes to the renewable energy supply chain but also demonstrates the Island’s role in global innovation.

The site’s expertise in chemical formulation, material handling and toll manufacturing supports customers worldwide, while also providing local employment and ties to sustainability initiatives in the community.

“This major new long-term contract underscores our strong global market position and the enduring partnership we have built with strategic customers,” said Gurit Group CEO Tobias Lührig, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and supporting wind energy manufacturing efficiencies.

The OptiCore technology at the heart of this deal helps reduce the weight of turbine blades, improving manufacturing efficiency and lowering total cost of ownership for wind turbine producers — an important step in advancing clean energy adoption globally.

For Isle of Wight residents, Gurit’s success story is a reminder of the Island’s impactful role in renewable energy supply chains, and signals continued confidence in its local workforce and industrial capabilities.
