A fundraising appeal has been launched to support two Isle of Wight residents after a devastating flat fire in Lake earlier this week claimed the lives of several of their beloved pets.
Emergency services were called to Sandown Road on Tuesday (3rd March) following reports that a first-floor flat in a residential block was well alight.
Firefighters from Newport, Ryde, Shanklin and Ventnor attended the scene and worked quickly to bring the blaze under control.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to tackle the flames, while positive pressure ventilation was used to clear smoke from the building.
Residents in neighbouring flats were evacuated as a precaution.
Thankfully, no people were injured in the incident.
However, it has since been confirmed that the occupants tragically lost their dog, Taff, along with 2 guinea pigs and a chinchilla in the fire.
Friends Andy and Chelsie have now launched an online fundraiser to help Gary and Gary recover from the incident and begin rebuilding their lives following the devastating loss.
In a message on the fundraising page, they said the pair are currently facing the emotional challenge of grieving their “furry family members” while also trying to work and repair the damage caused to their home.
The appeal aims to raise money to help ease the financial pressure during what has been described as an extremely difficult time.
Anyone wishing to support the fundraiser can do so online via GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-rebuild-a-home-e6p2y?ref=ed_direct
