Flood Risk Concerns Raised Over Plans For Ryde Hotel

Plans to turn a prominent building in Ryde into a new ten-bedroom hotel have prompted concerns from the Environment Agency over flood risk.

Dr Malik wants to convert the former Terminus Hotel on St Johns Road, which has fallen into a poor state of repair.

The proposals include ten bedrooms, along with a guest lounge and dining area.

However, the Environment Agency has objected to the application, saying an adequate flood risk assessment has not been provided.

It says the submitted assessment does not properly consider whether the development could increase flood risk elsewhere and fails to take the effects of climate change into account.

The agency has asked for a revised assessment addressing its concerns before its objection can be overcome.

The applicant's agent, Holbrook Architectural Services, previously said the development would be acceptable in flood risk terms and would comply with national planning policy.

It also said the Environment Agency's long-term assessment identifies the site as being at very low risk from rivers, the sea and surface water, with no identified groundwater or reservoir flood risk.
