Plans to demolish and replace a bungalow in Freshwater have been approved by Isle of Wight Council — despite opposition from the parish council.
The scheme, put forward by Dr Jane Worlock for 7 Chine Close, will see the existing property replaced with a modern two-bedroom home featuring an open-plan living space, utility room, integral garage and storage.
Her agent, Andrew White Planning Consultancy, said the existing bungalow was in poor condition, citing issues with damp, insulation, asbestos and accessibility.
They argued the new build would provide improved accommodation, sustainability, and design.
However, Freshwater Parish Council opposed the plans, describing the design as “out of keeping” and “incongruous” with the surrounding street scene.
Planning officers acknowledged the new property would look significantly different, particularly with its roofline, but concluded it would not be taller than neighbouring homes and would add “design interest” to the area.
They also noted the footprint increase was modest and would not amount to overdevelopment.
As a result, the application was approved.
