Isle of Wight residents can now apply to join a free of charge 12-week netball programme that begins on April 10 thanks to funding from Isle of Wight Council.

The offer is part of the gloji Exercise Support programme, a digital platform that works around busy schedules, and is available to eligible local residents.

In addition to the netball, the programme also offers free access to digital weight loss support.

All abilities are welcome, so whether you are a complete beginner or already know your way around a netball court, you can take part.

Each session starts with a weigh-in and guidance from an expert health coach to help you set goals and work towards achieving them.

Then it’s onto the court to play some games, with rolling substitutions and breaks factored in.

The program aims to help participants gradually build up their fitness, skills and confidence.

Jack Bennett, gloji’s Service Lead for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, says:

“This is an opportunity for residents to join a friendly, welcoming group, enjoy team play, stay active, and work towards their weight loss goals, all as a professional coach guides them at their own pace.”

In between the weekly netball sessions, participants can go online to learn how to take their health and wellbeing to the next level.

They receive free access to a digital weight loss programme that includes a 12-week interactive video series, hundreds of articles, tips and guides, as well as delicious, simple and nutritious recipes and a handy online journal to track their progress.

To help then work on their mobility and strength, participants also get free unlimited access to use gloji’s online gym.

They can select from a huge range of live and on-demand sessions to do from the comfort of their own home.

Emma Seabrook, 43, from the Isle of Wight, is one of those who has taken part in the gloji programme before.

“I have found it inspiring, and it has enabled me to make healthier life changes,” says Emma.
“The healthier choices I have made to my diet and lifestyle has impacted on my overall health, lowering my blood pressure and cholesterol.
"I would strongly suggest people make time each week to watch the videos, and make little changes on a weekly basis, and then become established with those changes before introducing more changes.”

Limited free spaces are available now - to find out more about gloji’s Exercise Support programme and see if you’re eligible to sign up, visit iow.gloji.org.uk/exercise-support-register-your-interest/

Sessions will take place on Thursday evenings at Ryde School, Queen’s Road, Ryde.
