Children and young people across the Isle of Wight can look forward to a fun-filled festive break with the return of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme this Christmas.
Running throughout the school holidays, the council-led scheme offers a wide mix of free activities, including football sessions, farm visits, creative workshops, soft play and more — all alongside a nutritious meal and snacks each day.
Funded by the Department for Education, HAF is open to children who receive benefits-related free school meals, with additional spaces available for families who may need extra support.
More than 1,230 places are on offer this winter, with sessions hosted by trusted providers across Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Cowes and East Cowes.
How to book
Families can browse and book all available sessions via the Family Information Hub and the dedicated HAF booking system, making it easier than ever to secure a place.
Councillor Paul Brading, chair of the children’s services, education and skills committee, said:
“The HAF programme is a lifeline for many families during the festive season.
"It’s not just about keeping children entertained — it’s about making sure they’re safe, well-fed and included.
"Every child deserves a joyful holiday, and this initiative helps make that possible.
"I’m incredibly proud of the providers and volunteers who give their time and energy to create such a welcoming and enriching environment.”
Families are encouraged to explore the full programme and get involved in this season’s activities.
