A former veterinary surgery in Ventnor could be converted into a one-bedroom flat amid warnings it’s at “serious risk of falling into disrepair.”

The building at 16A Pier Street, once home to Green and Forster Vets, has stood empty since February 2024.

Owner Ian Green has now applied to the Isle of Wight Council to change its use from commercial to residential.

According to the application, prepared by Nova Architectural, every option to keep the building as a business has been explored without success.

The statement says:

“It has become clear that the property is no longer a feasible option for business use.
"If both commercial and residential routes are deemed unviable, the building is at serious risk of falling into disrepair.”

The proposal argues that converting the site — located behind Dalyan Kebab Shop and accessed through the archway beside it — would create a “well-needed step on the ladder for first-time buyers.”

It describes the site as a brownfield location in the centre of Ventnor, complete with its own parking space and requiring no major construction work to make it habitable.

The council’s public consultation on application 25/01324/FUL runs until November 14, with a decision expected on December 11.
