Flood alerts have been issued for several parts of the Isle of Wight as heavy rain continues to raise river levels across the Island.

The Environment Agency confirmed the alerts on Thursday, February 5, warning that flooding is possible along the River Medina, Lukely Brook and Gurnard Luck following significant rainfall and with more wet weather forecast over the coming days.

Along the River Medina, flooding is possible between Blackwater and Newport.

With around 25mm of rain forecast today, land, gardens and roads could be affected, particularly at Blackwater.

Areas of concern include Blackwater Hollow on the A3020 near Mill Farm and Sandy Lane.

River levels could also become very high at St George’s Way in Shide. Further rain expected on Friday and Saturday means river levels are likely to remain high for several days.

A separate flood alert is in place for Lukely Brook, covering the stretch from Carisbrooke to Newport.

The Environment Agency says the brook could come out of its banks at Foxes Lane, potentially affecting the Aquatics Centre.

Footpaths and riverside areas near Old Westminster Lane could also flood, in what could be a repeat of flooding seen earlier this week.

River levels may not begin to fall until Sunday.

Residents living close to the brook, particularly near Vicarage Walk, are being advised to consider using any flood protection measures they have in place.

Environment Agency teams are currently clearing debris screens to help water drain more freely.

Flooding is also possible at Gurnard Luck, where high river levels could affect gardens or properties closest to the water, especially along Marsh Road.

More rainfall on Friday and Saturday could increase the risk further, with river levels again not expected to fall until Sunday.

The Environment Agency says it is closely monitoring rainfall and river levels across the Island and will continue checking for and clearing any reported blockages.

Residents are being urged to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, including Marsh Road in Gurnard, where flooding may occur.

People living in flood-prone areas are advised to stay alert, monitor local conditions and keep up to date with the latest Environment Agency warnings over the coming days.
