An electric vehicle charging station is set to be built on a vacant brownfield site next to a pub in Lake.
E.ON Drive Infrastructure UK has been granted planning permission for the development behind the Merrie Gardens Farm pub.
The scheme will include eight charging bays, two of which will be accessible, along with a substation, lighting columns and a new access with dropped kerbs.
Planning documents say the site will be the first dedicated EV charging hub in the local area and is intended to support the shift towards greener transport.
Council planners said the introduction of charging points would provide a “significant benefit” to the area, encouraging electric vehicle use among visitors to nearby businesses, hotels and restaurants.
A decision report described the development as “fairly low key”, noting it would sit alongside similar neighbouring land uses, with additional soft landscaping included to improve the site.
It concluded the plans would not harm the character of the surrounding area or any nearby heritage assets.
Lake Parish Council previously supported the application, saying it would fit with the longer-term development plans for the Merrie Gardens area.
