More than a dozen Isle of Wight jobs are under threat this afternoon (Tuesday), after the Ellen MacArthur Foundation — which has offices based in Cowes — announced changes which will see 17 jobs put at risk.
The move saw the charity announce a strategic shift which leaves roles at risk of redundancy.
A 30-day consultation period will now take place before any final decisions are made.
A statement from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation said:
"We recognise this is a difficult time and are committed to supporting those who are affected.
"The Isle of Wight remains the Foundation’s headquarters, home to many of our employees, and is an important part of our story – past, present, and future.
"For the past 15 years, the Isle of Wight based charity has put the circular economy on the global agenda and demonstrated its viability across industries, highlighting it as a vital solution to both economic and environmental challenges.
"Now we are entering a new chapter — setting the agenda for circular economy implementation and working to make it real in everyday life.
"We will also be focusing our organisation behind our three missions, meaning less broad based promotion and education around the circular economy, and working directly with fewer sectors."
CEO Jonquil Hackenberg, who joined the organisation at the end of 2024 with the
objective to lead the Foundation into its next chapter, said:
“The Foundation has built an unrivalled Network at the most senior level of global business and government.
"Everyone recognises that the playbook needs to evolve to meet the size of the challenge, but we are uniquely positioned to set, then activate, the agenda for circular, at-scale solutions with our signature creativity and collaboration, with pace.”
