Elenors Grove, between Binstead and Fishbourne, fully reopened in both directions last night (Wednesday) – around a month earlier than originally expected.
Southern Water has completed its water main replacement works in the area, which began on 2nd February.
The project involved replacing around 500 metres of ageing water mains and connections in an effort to reduce leaks and improve water pressure.
When the works were first announced, they were expected to run until at least 10th April, with a one-way system in place and no access towards Ryde.
However, much to the relief of motorists, the project has finished ahead of schedule.
The main road linking Ryde and Newport has now reopened in both directions – around a month sooner than initially planned.
The reopening of Elenors Grove also means Firestone Copse Road can now reopen.
It had been closed during the works to prevent drivers from using the narrow road as an unofficial diversion.
Despite the early completion bringing relief for drivers, disruption in the Binstead area is set to continue in the coming weeks.
Island Roads is due to return to Binstead Road in April to continue resurfacing works that previously caused significant disruption into 2027.
