The Isle of Wight Council says “significant challenges” would need to be overcome before Ryde Splash Park could return, with a replacement facility estimated to cost between £250,000 and £450,000.
County Hall says it recognises strong local support for the attraction and remains open to discussions about bringing back a water-based facility, but warned the former splash park infrastructure cannot simply be repaired.
The comments come after Ryde Town Council voted this week to support a petition calling for the park’s refurbishment and preservation. More than 3,400 people have now signed the appeal.
The council says any new splash park would require the complete removal of the old system and installation of entirely new infrastructure, including pumps, filtration systems, water features and accessibility improvements.
It also warned there is currently no secured funding for either the construction or long-term running costs, with the total cost over the facility’s lifespan potentially exceeding £1.25 million.
County Hall says no final decisions have been made and has called for a collaborative approach with Ryde Town Council and community groups to identify funding and shape future proposals for the site.
