The Isle of Wight Council says it is cooperating fully with Police following two separate road traffic collisions involving its fleet vehicles in recent days.
On Saturday, an electric VW Up was badly damaged in a head-on crash at Whippingham.
Emergency services were called to Whippingham Road, near Racecourse Roundabout, just before 10:45am, when the VW Up collided with a black Ford Kuga.
The road remained closed for more than three hours, with two people taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
Just 3 days later, another council-owned vehicle was involved in a collision, this time at the opposite end of Fairlee Road in Newport.
Shortly before 7:30am this morning (Tuesday), a black Kia Soul was involved in a crash—also with a Ford Kuga.
The incident has led to significant tailbacks for traffic heading into Newport from all directions.
In response, a spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council said:
“The Isle of Wight Council is aware that on Saturday and this morning its fleet vehicles were involved in road traffic collisions.
“The council is cooperating fully with emergency services and has no further comment to make at this time.”
