Appeal After Aggressive Dog Incident In Newport

Police are appealing for witnesses following a dangerous dog incident in Newport this morning (Thursday).


The incident happened between 9.45am and 10.30am, when a man was seen walking through the town with a dog described as a Staffy cross Bull Mastiff.


The dog is reported to have behaved aggressively, lunging and jumping at members of the public.


Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended and arrested a 38-year-old man in Orchard Street on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog, as well as possession of Class A drugs.


He remains in custody at this time, while the dog has been seized.
